1st Battalion of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps Celebrates 45th Anniversary

Military formalities were held as commemoration for the 45th Anniversary of the 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps. On 29th August 2024, the troops of 1 SLAWC carried out a 'Bodhi Pooja' by conducting a sermon for the troops and invoked merits on fallen war heroines and blessings on serving Army personnel as well as their family members.

On 1st September 2024, Major E M H C de Saram psc SLAWC, the Commanding Officer of 1 SLAWC graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Upon her arrival, she was warmly welcomed and received a guard turnout at the main entrance. The Commanding Officer of 1 SLAWC honoured the fallen war heroines at the monument with floral tributes. Major E M H C de Saram psc SLAWC accepted the salute as the Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps on the parade accorded by the troops of 1 SLAWC in front of highly attended gathering at the parade ground. The Commanding Officer extended her gratitude to troops for their great commitment for success of all exceptional commitment to the service.

Marking this noteworthy day, Senior Officers, Officers, and all Other Ranks cut the anniversary cake and then posed for group photographs with all Ranks of the unit. A plaque commemorating the two brave war heroines who died in the war was given to their next-of-kin. 1 SLAWC successfully initiated its dry ration pack distribution program for the civilian staff. A total number of 14 civilian staff members were beneficiaries of this thoughtful endeavor. Afterwards, soldiers who played with dedication for the unit, gained sports skills, and studied the courses with excellence were given a prize. After concluding the day's commemorative ceremony, a traditional meal for all Ranks was arranged.
