The opening address of the Special Infantry Operations Course No - 79 was held at the Headquarters 1 Corps, marking the commencement of a highly significant professional military training course for infantry personnel.
This course is designed to enhance the practical combat knowledge and operational effectiveness of infantrymen, enabling them to apply advanced skills in real ground conditions during potential wartime scenarios. Throughout the course, troops are trained to operate in realistic battlefield environments to ensure readiness to face diverse and challenging operational situations.
The Special Infantry Operations Course No - 79 spans nearly eight months in duration and consists of eight progressive training legs, structured to gradually build tactical proficiency and operational confidence. Under the guidance and supervision of the Commander, 1 Corps - Major General PS Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc, along with the dedicated support of the Staff Officers, the first three legs of the course are being conducted at Headquarters 1 Corps. Total number of four Officers and thirty two Other Ranks are following this course, representing the 1st and 3rd Battalions of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry, the 8th Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment and the 6th Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, all of which are under command of 1 Corps.
The first phase of the course officially commenced on 12 January 2026 and the opening address was delivered by Brigadier General Staff, 1 Corps - Brigadier DS Horawalavithana WWV RWP RSP ndc, who highlighted the history of the Special Infantry Operations and emphasised the importance of discipline, endurance, and professional excellence expected of all course participants.
