COMMANDER OF THE ARMY CEREMONIALLY OPENS HEADQUARTERS BUILDING OF NEWLY RAISED 1 CORPS

The Headquarters building of the newly raised 1 Corps at Kilinochchi was ceremonially opened on 17 October 2021 by General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Chief of Defence Staff, and Commander of the Army as chief guest on the invitation of Major General Harendra Ranasinghe RWP RSP ndc, Commander, 1 Corps.

A drive-pass Guard Turnout greeted the visiting Chief Guest, General Shavendra Silva at the entrance before he was accorded to receive the salute of the Guard of Honour by Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, Commander 1 Corps extending a warm welcome. The Guard of Honour was presented by Special Forces.

Later the Chief Guest along with other guests light the traditional oil lamp and ceremonially opened the new HQ complex of 1 Corps. After a brief and cordial discussion held at Commander’s 1 Corps Office, Chief Guest was invited to leave his signature in the Visitors' Book followed by planting a sapling in front of new Headquarters to mark this historical event.
