GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING 58 INFANTRY DIVISION VISITS UNDER COMMAND FORMATIONS

Major General J K R Jayakody RWP USP, the newly appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 58 Infantry Division, paid his official visits to the 582 Infantry Brigade, 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry, 21st Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 1st Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 24 October 2024.

Initially the General Officer Commanding arrived at the Tactical Headquarter 582 Infantry Brigade located in Slave Island, Colombo and was warmly received by the Commander 582 Infantry Brigade Brigadier M L D S Molligoda USP psc. Later, the General Officer Commanding visited the 1st Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment deployed at old post office building in Colombo. The Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment received the General Officer Commanding with grate respect and briefed him on the duties of the Battalion. Finally, the General Officer Commanding address the 1st Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops.

Afterward, the General Officer Commanding arrived to the 582 Brigade Headquarters deployed at Ellakandawatta, HORANA. Upon his arrival, the Commander of the 582 Infantry Brigade extended a warmly welcome to the General Officer Commanding honored him in a Guard Turnout by 21st Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops at the Bridge entrance. During the visit the General Officer Commanding planted sapling in the compound, pose for a group photograph with brigade’s staff. After that, the Commander of the 582 Infantry Bridge briefed the roles and tasks performed by the 582 Infantry Brigade and its affiliated Battalions.

Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding paid a visit to the 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry. The Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry warmly welcome the General Officer Commanding at Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium, Diyagama. Remark of the official visit, the General Officer Commanding address all troops of 582 Infantry Brigade, 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 21st Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment. After the conclusion the visit the General Officer Commanding participated for the Officers’ mess lunch.
