COMMANDER I CORPS VISITS SPECIAL FORCES BRIGADE AHEAD OF RETIREMENT

In a momentous and heartfelt occasion, the Commander of I Corps, Major General WMPM Wijesooriya RWP RSP, paid a farewell visit to the Special Forces Brigade at Vauniya, marking one of his final official engagements before retirement. Upon his arrival at the Special Force Brigade, the visiting senior officer was warmly welcomed by Col G.W.E.K. Ganegoda RWP RSP USP, Brigade Commander of the Special Force. The ceremony commenced with a formal Guard Turnout, presented by Special Forces troops, showcasing the high standards of discipline and professionalism synonymous with the elite formation.

As a mark of profound respect and remembrance, the Commander I Corps proceeded to lay a floral tribute at the Special Force War Heroes’ Memorial, honouring the supreme sacrifice of fallen Special Forces Soldiers who laid down their lives in defence of the nation. Following the tribute, the Commander addressed all ranks of the Special Forces Brigade. During his speech, he commended the unwavering commitment, operational excellence, and the exemplary conduct of the troops. The visit continued with a cordial All-Ranks Tea, allowing the Commander to engage formally with soldiers across all levels, strengthening the bond between leadership and troops. .

The visit concluded with warm farewells and the ceremonial departure of the I Corps Commander, marking the end of a memorable chapter in his military journey.
