COMMANDER, 1 CORPS ASSUMES OFFICE

Major General PS Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment assumed duties as the 9th Commander of 1 Corps on 05 January 2026 during a formal ceremony held at the Corps Headquarters.

Upon his arrival at the Corps Headquarters, he was accorded a Guard Turnout presented by the troops of the 1st Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. Brigadier DS Horawalawithana WWV RWP RSP ndc, Brigadier General Staff 1 Corps, formally received him at the entrance.

Thereafter, the Brigadier General Staff of 1 Corps then ushered the newly appointed Commander to the saluting dais at the parade ground, where he reviewed the Guard of Honour presented by the troops of the 1st Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

In the presence of religious blessings, the Commander, 1 Corps formally assumed his new office by signing an official document with the blessings of Maha Sangha. To commemorate the occasion, he subsequently planted a Sandalwood sapling in the Headquarters premises. The ceremonial event clinched with the newly appointed Commander posing for group photographs with Formation Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks.

Subsequently, the newly appointed Commander addressed the troops, sharing his vision and thoughts for the future. The ceremony concluded with a customary tea reception at the Corporal’s Club.
