The newly appointed Director (Officiating) of the Directorate of Information Technology, Colonel Chanaka Prathapasinghe assumed duties on Thursday (21) during a simple ceremony.
Amidst ‘Pirith’ chanting of Maha Sangha, the new Director Information Technology signified the acceptance of his office at the auspicious minute after leaving his signature for an official document. Senior Officers, Officers and a few Other Ranks were associated with the occasion.
Prior to the present appointment Colonel Chanaka Prathapasinghe served as the Colonel (IT) of the Directorate of IT.
He was proud product of Royal College Colombo and enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army as a Direct Enlisted Officer to the Sri Lanka Signal Corps in 1990 and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) Diyatalawa. Colonel Chanaka Prathapasinghe being an IT professional has earned number of qualifications including Diploma in Computer System Analysis Design from NIBM, Automated Data Processing Course and Advanced Cyber Security Course in India. Presently he is reading for MBA in E-Governance at Kotelawala Defence University.
During his illustrious military career, Colonel Chanaka Prathapasinghe has held number of appointments as an IT Officer during high intensity operations and various other headquarters as well. He served as the IT Officer of UN Military Contingent-Haiti in 2008 and also held appointment of Staff Officer Grade I (IT) at Directorate of Ordinance Services, MGO Branch and OCDS. Moreover, he has commanded 6, 11 IT Regiments and 12 Cyber Security Regiment of Sri Lanka Signal Corps.
