The ‘Finger Swift-2020’, a demonstrative platform to showcase the assortment of innovative IT software development solutions and diversified IT applications, crafted by the Directorate of Information Technology in the Sri Lanka Army was laid bare this morning (7) before Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army at the Army HQ.
The diversification of Innovative Information Technology, Island-wide Networking Facilities, Output and Innovative Services, Updated Cyber Security Standards, Data Center Services and a variety of other software applications were made a reality as a result of guidance given by Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Major General Prabhath Dematanpitiya. The Chief Signal Officer (CSO), Major General Adeepa Thilakarathne and Director of Information Technology Brigadier Ashoka Peiris toiled hard to realize those solutions.
These applications, designed to make the Army commanding and administrative operations more efficient through new technology were invented or crafted by the Software Development and Engineering Wing of the Directorate of IT as a result of a series of researches and technical experiments. Major General Adeepa Thilakarathna, CSO delivered a brief introduction to the occasion and extended a welcome before newly-developed software applications were shown to the occasion's Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva.
At the same occasion, the Army Chief closely watched those innovative creations and was afterwards invited to launch the new portal (Sri Lanka Army Patient Portal) for Army patients, a register that can maintain patient details. In his brief address to the occasion, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva underlined the importance of such new applications to simplify complex activities and promotion of the growth of technological advancement to match with fast changing needs.
He also paid his gratitude to the Sri Lanka Signal Corps for efforts taken for development of software applications in support of operational and administrative functions of the Army. He also noted the efforts taken by Signallers towards digitization of the organization in the past few years. “Your hard work is not a wastage and your commitment is recognized and dedication will be repaid by the Army in time to come” he added.
“Sri Lanka Army is respected by the people of this nation unlike never before. HE the President, Prime Minister and the people of this country have full confidence in us and forces are always ready for anything at any given time of the day because we stand as a disciplined lot,” he remarked.
Mentioned below are the specialties and several projects demonstrated at the event: Sri Lanka Army Patient Portal, Weapons Simulator, Army Web Portal, Geo Based Personal Information System, Fuel Management System, Learning Management System, Shopping Cart for Army Welfare Shop, etc.
Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Principal Staff Officers, Directors, senior officers, student officers of UCC 7 at Buttala, Officers and Other Ranks attended the venue.
