Captain Kavinda Liyanage of Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) whose National Ranking is 12th and a high-flying member of the Sri Lanka Army Table Tennis Pool beaten the Sri Lanka\'s 4 times National Champion Udaya Ranasinghe (Vidyartha College, Kandy). This was recorded during the event of men\'s category (single) of the Isuru Devappriya All Island National Ranking Table Tennis (Open) Tournament held at St Thomas College Indoor Stadium, Mountlavinia on 6th May 2017.
Captain Kavinda Liyanage initially beaten Captain Kasun Wijesekara (SLSC) as 3-1 in his 1st round and then secured his position against the National Champion Udaya Ranasingha who is presently the No - 1 in the National Ranking. Capt Liyanage fixed Udaya Ranasinghe as 3-1 in pre quarterfinals and beaten Krishan Wickramanayaka (Vidiyartha College) too as 4-2 in the same quarterfinals.
Capt Kavinda Liyanage is an old boy of St Benedict\'s College, Colombo 5 who was groomed into the sport of Table Tennis when he represented the College from year 2002 to 2009.
