SIGNALS 74TH ANNIVERSARY - OVERNIGHT PIRITH CHANTING AND ALMSGIVING

Corps of Signals attained the Sacred Blessings of the Noble Triple Gems for the wellness and divine contentment of All Ranks by conducting an overnight Pirith Chanting in the evening on 16th October 2017 and the Almsgivings on the following day. These religious rituals were held in line with series of events organized to celebrate the 74th Anniversary of the Corps.

The event started in the evening with a colorful cultural procession presented by Signals troops that accompanied Buddhist Priests to start the overnight Pirith Chanting observance.

Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Signals Maj Gen B H M A Wijesinghe USP ndu psc together with many serving officers, Chairperson Mrs Arosha Wijesinghe together with members of the Signals Seva Vanitha Branch and the family members of the deceased brave Signallers attended the ceremony. They all together observed their best dedicated composure in merit of all fallen heroes and for the peace of mind in disabled troops.

Following day, on 17th October 2017, the morning Almsgiving (Heel Dana) was held for 15 Buddhist Priests who chanted Pirith overnight. Prior to the Almsgiving held in the noon, all Signal units got the advantage of conducting counselling and interviewing the families of the deceased Signallers that created a well compassionate milieu to address the critical needs of them. Then the foremost Almsgiving Ceremony was held for 25 Buddhist Priests in the noon with the participation of the Colonel Commandant, Senior Officers and Officers of the Corps of Signals and their ladies, All Ranks representing the Signal Regiments and relations of the deceased personnel.

At the end of the religious practices, Signals Seva Vanitha Branch organized and distributed special gifts and the Corps of Signals souvenirs for the families of deceased who participated the event.
