Both Officers and Other Ranks of the Corps of Signals held their festive event of the New Year 2023 on Friday, 21 April 2023 at Regimental Center Playground Panagoda. The ceremony was graced by Maj Gen K A W S Ratnayake ndu, the Chief Signal Officer of the Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Signals as the Chief Guest. Lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the Chief Guest and the playing of the National Anthem and the Signal Anthem signed the formal commencement of the festival. The attendance by the Chairperson of the Signals Seva Vanitha Branch Mrs Nalini Ratnayake together with many members and families of Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment added much glamour to the dynamic event.
An array of well-organized games and events attracted the hearts and minds of all the participants, which included many traditional games and competitions, such as, obstacle running, pot-cracking, pillow-fighting, barrier races, grease-pole climbing, tracing the hidden guest, tug-of-war, musical chairs, slow-riding bikes, fancy dress performance, selection of the ‘Avurudu Kumaraya’ (New Year Prince), selection of the ‘Avurudu Kumariya (New Year Princess) etc. Some special events were also held on behalf of the kids such as bun-eating, eye-placing on the elephant and blowing balloons and all the kids who participated were given away valuable gifts.The running event organized for civil servants also took the attraction of the participants.
