In the noble view of raising funds and looking into welfare of fellow valiant war heroes of Signals, The Mercury Club of The Sri Lanka Signal Corps launched a Historical Mega Musical event \'Alka Yagnik Live in Concert\' at Sugathadasa Indoor stadium on 26 October 2014 with the participation of recorded crowed. The mega musical concert was an idea of Major General Prasad Samarasinghe Chief of Staff and the Colonel Commandant of SLSC, and made it a reality by organizing the event utmost glamorously with the participation of the secretary to the His Excellency the President Mr Lalith Weerathunga and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General R M D Ratnayake WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc while Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa grace the occasion as the chief guest.
Alka Yagnik is a legendary female vocalist of Bollywood and she has won several prestigious music awards for best female playbacks such as Filmfare Awards, National Awards, Bollywood Movie Awards, IIFA Awards, Star Screen Awards, Zee Cine Awards, etc. She also holds the record for most awards won as well as maximum nominations for Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. She got her big breakthrough with the song \'Ek Do Theen\' from the film \'TEZAAB\' in year 1988 .The song won her a Filmfare Best Female Playback Award. Also her song \'Choli Ke Peeche\' from the movie \'KHALNAYAK\' was voted as the hottest song of the century. The \'Melody Queen of the Silver Screen\' performed more than 20 of her most popular hits to entertain the audience along with her fascinating voice for more than two and half hours.
At the climax of the event she was awarded a beautiful memento to mark her first ever solo concert in Sri Lanka by the Secretary of Ministry of Defence, and Urban Development.
