PRIDE OF SIGNALLERS IN THE 70TH INDEPENDENCE DAY

The annual grand ceremony of the nation was held on February 04th, 2018 at the historical Galle Face green to mark the country’s 70th Independence Day. During the ceremonial military parade comprising nearly 6000 troops of Tri-services, Police and Civil Security Department, His Excellency the President of Socialist Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka and Commander in Chief of Armed Forces was accorded the Guard of Honour and the Gun salute as customary.

The smart foot and mechanized columns of the Corps of Signals, that took part in the elegant parade, added glamour to the event and was highly appreciated by spectators. The ceremonial foot column of Signals dressed with 4 Officers and 101 Other Ranks marched in the parade under the command of Major Gayanath Herath psc, Signal Regimental Adjutant. And the mechanized column of Signals commanded by Lt Col Nandana Weerathunga, Commanding Officer 7 SLSC, mounted with key communication equipment, Electronic Warfare equipment and a model of a Mobile Operation Room that was included in the parade with 3 Officers and 24 Other Ranks.

In keeping with her role and tasks, the Corps of Signals, like in early years, contributed immensely for the success of the ceremony by providing Signal communication assistance for the rehearsals beside its active participation in the final parade, which ultimately drew many commendations.
