NEWLY APPOINTED DEPUTY CENTRE COMMANDANT SLSC

Colonel KAWS Rathnayake assumed duties as Deputy Centre Commandant of Regimental Centre of Sri Lanka Signal Corps on 12 January 2017 after a successful completion of 28 years of the service. He joined the Army on 26.07.1988 as an Officer Cadet and followed the Basic Military Training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy. Then he was commissioned on 05.10.1990 as a Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Signal Corps. He was subsequently promoted to senior ranks of Lieutenant on 05.04.1992, Captain on 05.04.1994, Major on 05.04.1999, Lieutenant Colonel on 20.01.2007 and Colonel on 01.11.2013. During his tour of duty, as a military officer, he has held numerous appointments in Command, Staff and Instructional capacities, displaying and performing exceptionally well accomplishing entrusted tasks. When it comes to Command appointments he has performed duties as the Platoon Commander, Troop Commander, Signal Officer at different formations, Squadron Commander, Second in Command of 5 SLSC and 7 SLSC(RFT), Commanding Officer of 9 SLSC and 7 SLSC(RFT). He also has held staff appointments such as Adjutant 1 SLSC, Regimental Adjutant of SLSC, General Staff Officer II - 22 Infantry Division, Brigade Major - 563 and 515 Infantry Brigades, General Staff Officer I (EW) and General Staff Officer I (Comm) of the Headquarters Chief Signal Officer. Further, he had performed well in instructional appointments as Chief Instructor and Commandant of the School of Signals in his illustrated carrier. Apart from the service rendered to the nation, he had been working in United Nation in Ethiopia from 31.08.2007 to 14.03.2008. Colonel KAWS Ratnayake is an Old Boy of prestigious Bandarawela Central College and he is well known as Sugath to his peers, superiors and loved ones. He is Married to Mrs Nalini and blessed with a lovely daughter and a son.
