GENUINE SIGNALERS DEFEATED AFTER A THUNDERING BATTLE

The final tussle of the Army Inter Regiment Rugby Championship Tournament between Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) \"Thunders\" and Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC), played at Race Course Grounds, Colombo 07, on Friday, 19 June 2015, with 20 - 36 points. Judged by merits of performances in previous tournaments, 16 Rugby teams were head for the cup and finally two best teams were qualified for the Grand Final.\r\n\r\nThe Chief Guest, Lieutenant General A W J C de Silva RWP USP ndu psc, Commander of the Army, senior officers and the retired senior officers who were represented rugby pools of Sri Lanka Army and Corps of Signals enthusiastically witnessed the finals between SLSC and SLAGSC which selected the victors at the end. Players of SLSC had a stunning 13-0 lead during the first half of the game and the victory of Thuders twisted by the outstanding performances by the Jumbos. The final was a nail biting event upto the last minute of the game. Both teams placed a thrilling punch to the spectators when the tussle got underway, amidst hundreds of fans who largely supported their own Regimental teams.\r\n\r\nLieutenant General W J C de Silva RWP USP ndu psc after extending his warm congratulations to the winners and 1st Runners - up teams and presented the Championship and 1st Runners - up Trophies to SLAGSC and SLSC players respectively amidst a thundering applause. A record gathering of spectators were present to witness the final encounter. This event was followed by a cocktail at the VIP lounge at the Race Course for all SLSC invitees. \r\n\r\nOn 11th Saturday Colonel Commandant Major General K R P Rowel RWP USP ndu psc welcomed the Cup Runner-ups and appreciated their efforts to bring the glory back to SLSC. Signallers appeared in a finals after 13 years lapses but they displayed their professionalism and the class despite the many challenges that they faced during the Rugby finals.\r\n
