The 593 Brigade at Nayaru under the 59 Division of the Security Force - Mullaittivu (SF-MLT) marked its 10th Anniversary on Friday (15) giving priority to religious activities and military traditions.
The series of activities commenced on Monday (11) with Hindu observances at Vattappalai Kovil, followed by Catholic service at Kokilai St. Sebastian Church where blessings were invoked on the Brigade Flag, war heroes and serving troops. An overnight Pirith chanting ceremony was held on Wednesday (13) at the Brigade headquarters followed by alms-giving to monks the following morning.
The formal Guard Turnout and the ceremonial parade presented to the Commander 593 Brigade, Colonel A.H.L.G Amarapala by under command battalion troops; 19 the Gemunu Watch and 5 (volunteer) Sinha Regiment took place on the anniversary day itself. Later, the Brigade Commander unveiled the newly constructed gold-plated fence around the ‘Bo' tree inside the Brigade temple.
He also opened the new conference hall and the IT lab in the Brigade Headquarters. A tea arrangement with all ranks drew the day's formal programme to end before a musical session got underway the same evening (16).
