After Provincial Council Elections AHQ decided to estb 234 Bde at Kallady in Batticaloa on 28 June 2008 to overcome LTTE activities in BCO area. After estb the Bde it coord all mil activities and frequently conducted limited and IS Ops in AOR, conjunction with Police, STF and SLAF. This curtailed terr activities to a greater extent. However terr has desperately attempting to intensify terrint activities in order to carryout IED attks on SF/Civ tgts which would be detrimental to the prevailing Sy sit in the area. On 10 November 2011, then 234 Bde was re-designated as 231 Inf Bde to carry out same duties and responsibilities assigned to the Bde being located in the same place.
Lt Col KDCDS Thilakeratne RSP GW was the first Bde Comd of 231 Bde. Details of past Bde Comds of 234 and 231 Bde are as fol:
