 Monthly Meeting of ASVU Gives Away More Assistance to Army War Heroes

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) had its monthly meeting on Saturday (20) morning at the ASVU auditorium, chaired by Mrs Chandrika Senanayaka, President, ASVU.
The meeting started with a one-minute silence in honour of late War Heroes who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the country. The last month minute was read out by the ASVU secretary afterwards. Discussions on budgetary allowances for welfare projects were taken up by Major W.W.D.S.K Weerakoon, Treasurer of the ASVU and also fund raising possibilities for future projects were discussed by the President, ASVU.
After the meeting, cash to the value of Rs 128.29 million was distributed among war heroes and their family members afterwards at Polhengoda Government Information Department auditorium. Similarly, financial donations were given away to the physically handicapped War Heroes on the same occasion.
Accordingly, 6 War Heroes were given Rs 500,000/= each to build their new houses. 16 more were given Rs 350,000 each to renovate of complete half built houses. Furthermore, Rs. 700,000/= and Rs. 500,000/= were given to two more soldiers plus a sum of Rs 200,000/= six civil employees in the Army. Four more soldiers were given Rs 150,000/= and Rs 100,000/= each for renovations of sanitary facilities. 
Moreover, 19 scholarships were given to the children in families of the Army as well as civil employees to the value of Rs 928,000/= including some grants for use of some dependents among those families.
Before the end of the day's proceedings, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and the Gemunu Watch gave away Rs 1,000,000/= and Rs 349,000/= respectively to the ASVU by respective Seva Vanitha Chairpersons of the Regiments.
