2019-06-12 14:24:26

The annual alms-giving of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) to the nuns at Madiwela monastery took place on Monday (10) at Panagoda Sri Bodhirajaramaya in the presence of a gathering of Seva Vanitha ladies, headed by Mrs Chandrika Senanayake, President, ASVU.

A colourful procession conducted the nuns to the alms hall before Mrs Senanayake in conformity with ancient traditions offered a tray of betel and invited the monks to perform religious rites and rituals.

The offer of Buddha Pooja and ‘Pirikara’ to the nuns by the ASVU President set the stage for the nuns to invoke blessings on the Commander of the Army, all serving the Army, those injured, civil staff and transfer merits on fallen War Heroes of the Army and other forces.

Chairpersons of all Regimental Seva Vanitha Units, members of Seva Vanitha Units, ASVU staffers and executive members of the ASVU took part in the meritorious act.

The ASVU has been conducting this alms-giving ceremony since the year 2011 with the intention of invoking blessings on the Army.
