 ASVU Launches One More Phase of its Scholarship Project to Students in Military Families

More scholarships for students in military families, to the value of more than Rs 3 million were distributed in a ceremony, held at the Defence Services College auditorium on Thursday (4), headed by Mrs Chandrika Senanayake, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) as the Chief Guest.

The Commander of the Army has advised the ASVU to continue this project uninterrupted until these sons and daughters grow up and get employed. 

The ASVU President was welcomed by a daughter and a son, followed by Mrs Sujeeewa Nelson, Vice President, ASVU with a flower bouquets at the main entrance. Subsequently, the Chief Guest and other distinguished guests lit the traditional oil lamp and inaugurated the proceedings.

During this scholarship awarding ceremony, 39 students who passed the Grade Five Scholarship examination, 32 Ordinary Level Examination achievers and 16 Advanced Level Examination achievers were awarded scholarships to the value of Rs 15,000/= & 20,000/=  respectively to support continuation of their studies.

Meanwhile, selected three students were offered 3 scholarships, each worth of Rs 1500/= per month for a period of one year. In addition, all students present at the venue received 1500 DSI Gift Vouchers and M.D Gunasena Gift Vouchers. Similarly, with the sponsorship given by the Headquarters of the People's Bank, all Advanced Level students were gifted with wrist watches, a school bag and a cap.

The total value of those scholarships and gifts exceeded Rs 3 m plus scholarships. Financial contribution from ASVU, Army Commander’s Fund and Sampath Bank Credit Management Section made up of the sponsorship for scholarships.

The day’s event culminated with the vote of thanks delivered by Mrs Thanuja Dias, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Artillery SVU.

Mr Lalanga Kariyawasam, Manager, Sampath Bank Credit Management Section, Regimental SVU Chairpersons, Senior Officers and a large crowd attended.
