The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), responsible for supply of food and snacks to Army personnel at subsidized rates will soon have a spacious and modern kitchen, to be built at a cost of Rs 52 lakhs inside the Manning Town Army residential quarters premises since the existing kitchen at Colpetty could not cope with the demand for ASVU products.

On Thursday (31) Mrs Chandrika Senanayake,  President, ASVU laid the foundation stone for construction of this new wing at Manning Town amid Seth Pirith chanting of the Maha Sangha.  Corps of Engineer Services and manpower have undertaken the construction part on their own. Funds for raw materials are to be given by the ASVU with the help of donors and sponsors. The day's Chief Guest also conducted a supervision in the area and the bakery now in function after the main ceremony was over.
