 Army Seva Vanitha Unit Ladies Hold their AGM on Grand Scale

The 34th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) at the Army Headquarters got underway at the Grand Monarch hotel in  Thalawathugoda on Sunday (18), presided by its President, Mrs.Chandrika Senanayake.

The day’s proceedings got to a start with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp and observance of two-minute silence in memory of all fallen War Heroes before the minutes of the previous AGM as well as the annual financial statement were tabled before the gathering.

A brief video documentary that summarized what the ASVU did in the previous year reminded the gathering of its accomplishments before the ASVU President made a brief address to the occasion on the importance of continuation of its welfare role on behalf of War Heroes and family members. A group photo towards the end of the proceedings with all and chairpersons of other Seva Vanitha Units added memories. 

On the same occasion, Seva Vanitha units of the Commando Regiment and Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Regiment donated Rs 3 lakhs and Rs 5 lakhs respectively towards the welfare role of the ASVU.

Mrs Senanayake, President, ASVU at the same time donated a sum of Rs 6.7 m for distribution among Seva Vanitha Units to carry out their welfare work. 

At the end of the event, Dr Kamani Hettigoda, Psychologist at Naval Hospital – Welisara conducted a lecture on     ‘Women, Present Family and Society’.

A raffle draw awarded valuable prizes to the participants and special gift vouchers were distributed among all participants.
