The First United Nations Staff Officer Course commenced on 01 November 2018 at the Institute of Peace Support Operations Sri Lanka with twenty one student officers including eight lady officers. This is a new signpost and a great opportunity for the senior level officers of the Sri Lanka Army, those who are competent to contribute their service to UN as Military Staff Officer. They will obtain the knowledge on functioning duties at UN Force Headquarters and other branches as per the UN conditions.

Earlier, this course was conducted as Potential Military Observers and Staff Officers Course (POSOC) which gave high priority to practice as Military Observation Officer in various countries, but given least priority to Staff Officers’ role and duty. Therefore this newly introduced course will be highly beneficial. The opening address was conducted as customary by the Commandant of the IPSOTSL Brigadier PI Pathirathne.
