UN ASSESSMENT & ADVISORY VISIT TEAM ARRIVES TO IPSOTSL
A high-level United Nations Assessment and Advisory Visit (AAV) team visited to Institute of Peace Support Operations Training Sri Lanka with the expectation of ensuring the quality and standards of the contingent pre-deployment training of IPSOTSL and to evaluate the Operational Readiness of the additional 'Combat Convoy Company B-1’ (CCC) contingent, which is designed for the deployment shortly in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission (MINUSMA) on Friday (24) March 2023.
The Day’s proceedings were chaired by Major General P P A Perera Hdmc psc, the Director General, Directorate of Overseas Operations. The visited UN delegation consisted of Mr. James Victor De Rcole, (Strategic Force Generation and Capability Planning Cell in the United Nations Headquarters in New York), Colonel Lawrence Kapina, (Deputy Chief U7 Training and Evaluation of MINUSMA), Lieutenant Colonel Rajeev (Force Generation Service of the United Nations Headquarters in New York), Mr. Mark Flood (Regional area Coordinator - United Nations Mine Action Service, of MINUSMA) and Mr. Satvinder Singh Paul (Chief Contingent Own Equipment in MINUSMA) and they were scheduled to examine the capabilities of the SLCCC.
The aim of this AAV is to inspect the Combat Convoy Company Readiness and the standard of the pre-deployment training of the contingent and verify its conditions to meet the mission's Force Requirement as stipulated in the United Nations Department of Peace Operations (UNDPO).
The UN request for an additional Sri Lankan combat contingent for MINUSMA and the proposed additional 'Combat Convoy Company B- 1’ is composed of 22 Officers and 221 Other Ranks and At present, 20 Officers and 223 Other Ranks of the 4th Combat Convoy Company (CCC) are serving the MINUSMA.
The special presentation and the demonstrations formulated at Institute of Peacekeeping Support Operations Training Sri Lanka, with the intend of showcasing the Operational Readiness, Combat Engineering and Medical Capabilities of Sri Lanka Combat Convoy Company. This demonstration is influenced and designed with the on-ground experiences gained by the officers who have successfully completed the Sri Lanka Combat Convoy Company No 3. The guidance and support of the former Contingent Commander, Colonel Dinesh Bulathsinghala and other senior officials.
First presentation was delivered by Lt Col G H Amitha RWP RSP psc SF, the Chief Instructor of IPSOTSL about the pre-deployment training which conducts in this training institute and next by the Colonel S W P M H R Senadeera RWP USP psc, the Commander of the Combat Convoy Company B-1. Day’s procedures were organized with the directions of Brigadier C A Rajapaksha RWP, the Commandant of IPSOTSL.
