SRI PADA SEASON DRAWS TO AN END; THE GEMUNU TROOPS PARTICIPATED FOR RELIGIOUS CEREMONY AND PERAHERA FROM SRI PADA TO PALABADDALA

The Sri Pada pilgrimage season which continued for six months draws to an end on Vesk Poya Day on with a religious ceremony held at the summit under the auspices of the Pelmadulla Rajamaha Vihara and Sri Pada Chief incumbent the Ven. Bengamuwe Dammadinna Thero, who is also the Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University.

The ceremonies began at the auspicious time after enshrining the relics casket with on the summit at Sri Pada Maluwa and the Gemunu troops were takeover relics casket and the statue of God Saman and the ceremonial dress and continued to Palabaddala Purana Viharya along Raja Mawtha. The Gemunu troops have been annually participating for this religious ceremony.

A large number of devotees visited the Sri Pada Malluwa and several more devotees were seen alongside the roads awaiting the opportunity to pay homage to the relics casket and the statue of God Saman.
