“SOORYA MANGALYA” OF THE GEMUNU WATCH

The Soorya Mangalya Sinhala New Year Festival organized by the Regiment Centre the Gemunu Watch was held on 07 April 2018. The event was unfolded, giving prominence to the traditional New Year games and other associated events as per the direction of Chief of Staff and Colonel of the Regiment, Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP psc.

The Centre commandant warmly welcomed the Chief Gust of the event, Major General TS Bansajaya RWP RSP USP ndu Commandant Infantry Training Centre and invited to hoist the National Flag to mark the formal commencement of the day’s event. Then, lighting of the traditional oil lamp was done by the Chief Guest, Invitees, Officers, Other Ranks and Villagers. Afterward, two-minute silence was observed to pay the honour to fallen War Heroes of the GW.

Tug-of-War, Eye-placing on the blindfolded , Bun-eating, Lime and Spoon race, Cadjan weaving, Pillow fighting, Gunny bag race, Blind and Pot, Tracing of hidden guest, Music and Chairs and Fancy dress pageant and a number of other traditional and fun-making games dominated the day’s proceedings to the much amusement of all the onlookers.

The winners were given away with valuable gifts during the commencement of the New Year celebration. A large number of Officers, Other Ranks and Civilians were present for the event. At the end of the New Year festival a buffet lunch was organized with the participation of invitees and officers at the Pool Site.

Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, Invitees, members of the civil staff and neighboring villagers enjoyed the events and greeted each other for happy Sinhala new year.
