INTER BATTALION NOVICES CHAMPIONSHIP-2018

The Inter Battalions Novices Athletic Championship - 2018 of the Gemunu Watch, was declared open on first day by General Officer Commanding 54 Division, Major General GJAW Galagamage at 0830hrs on Thursday ( 18 ) at the Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium, Diyagama with the participation of more than 500 athletes representing all Battalions. The Inter Battalions Novices Championship 2018 was organized by the Gemunu Watch with guidance and supervision of the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP psc. The event to be held today and tomorrow (18 and 19 January 2018 )

During the opening ceremony the Gemunu Watch Flag was hoisted by Major General GJAW Galagamage and Subsequently two minutes silence was observed to memories the Fallen War Heroes of the Gemunu Watch. The lighting of the Olympic Torch was done by the veteran athletes of the Gemunu Watch, S/417036 S/Sgt Gunathilake KMNJ. Then oath of the players and the oath of judges were read respectively by Captain PMAP Palawaththa 5 GW and S/2M01305 S/Sgt Wasantha Kumara HB SLEME of Army Athletics Committee and a senior adjudicate of Athletics Association.

Frist day events included 10000 M, 5000 M, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot putt, discuss throw, jeweling throw and hammer throw. All this events gave sense of encouragement and excitement in the minds of spectators. The Gemmunu Watch as one of the most leading regiment in the Sri Lanka Army have been kept unparalleled records in the field of athletics during last five decades, having produced few International sportsman from the inception of the Regiment.
