PARTICIPATION OF THE GEMUNU TROOPS FOR RELIGIOUS CEREMONY AND PERAHERA IN SRI PADA

The Sri Pada pilgrimage season began on 3rd December 2017, Unduvap Poya Day with a traditional religious ceremony held at the summit under the auspices of the Pelmadulla Rajamaha Vihara and Sri Pada Chief Incumbent the Ven. Bengamuwe Dammadinna Thera. The ceremonies began at the auspicious time after enshrining the relics casket with on the summit at Pelmadulla Rajamaha Vihara. After reached the Perahera to Palabathgala Purana Viharya the Gemunu troops were takeover Relics Casket and the statue of God Saman and the ceremonial dress and continued to climb to Sri Pada Mluwa on Saturday along Ratnapura-Palabaddala Road. Annually the Gemunu troops were participated for this religious ceremony. Giving pride to the Regiment. Three separate avenues available to the Sri Pada Malluwa from the Pelmudulla Temple along the Ratnapura-Palabaddala Road, the Balangoda-Bogawanthalawa Road and the Ratnapura- Avissawella-Hatton Road. A large number of devotees visit the Sri Pada annually and this time too more devotees were seen alongside the roads awaiting the opportunity to pay homage to the Relics Casket and the statue of God Saman, Even under the adverse weather condition thousands of devotees participated this ceremony and Gemunu troops lead the wan to Sri Pada during this season too.
