HIGHLANDERS PLAYERS BEAT SLASC TEAM TO WIN FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The Gemunu Watch players( Highlanders ) defeated Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (Wagonners ) Team by 2 - 0 on the final tussle on Inter-Regiment Football Championship Wednesday (09 ) evening at Colombo Race Course grounds. From the beginning of the game both the teams entered very strong way to make favorable position against their own regiment name. As result, in the first half of the game score read as 0-0. However on the second half of the game highlanders beat the opponents to hit the top gear, amid a burst of thundering applause as the tussle highlanders defeating Wagonners goals on the final leg of the Championship tournament emerged victorious bagging 2 goals against 0 of the rivals.\r\n\r\nThe Commander of the Army, Lt Gen N U M M W Senanayake RWP RSP USP psc witnessed the final tussle as the Chief Guest and Senior Officers. Highlanders family member Major General KPA Jayasekara WWV RSP USP ndc psc, Major General WA Wanniarachchi WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc, Major General AA Kodippili RWP RSP ndc, Chairman, Army Football Committee, Brigadier WHM Manatunge and Brigadier TS Bansajaya RWP RSP USP participated for witnessed the finals at Race Course grounds.\r\n\r\nTrophies and certificates to the winners were given away by the Commander of the Army,Trophies and certificates awarded to S/3F02809 Sgt Premanayake PGRK 3 (V) GW for the Best Player of the tournament, S/427447 L Cpl Gunasingha RDS – 18 GW for the best Player of the Match and S/430449 L Cpl Priasatha TS – 4 GW for the best Goal Keeper.\r\n\r\nFootball teams of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Sri Lanka Artillery, Sri Lanka Engineers, Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Gemunu Watch, Gajaba Regiment, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Commando Regiment, Military Intelligence Corps, Corps of Engineer Services, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps, Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps and Sri Lanka National Guard also fought for the Inter-Regiment Football Championship – 2017.\r\n\r\n“Tarry not Forward”\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
