ARMY TROOPS CONTINUE TO MAN POST-DISASTER RELIEF PROJECTS

The Gemunu troops, still continuing with their assistance to some of the worst-affected areas during recent past flood and landslip areas in Rathnapura District with the support of the ven. Maha Sanga Thero and donors. The last two weeks ( From 1 June 2017 to 13 June 2107) the Regimental Centre, the Gemunu Watch organized number of donation programmes at different places in Rathnapura district. Troops are attending to the cleaning of drinking water well in Ehaliyagoda area, in addition to distribution of dry ration packets and drinking water bottles in Theppanawa and Ellawalla on 1st and 2nd June 2017. Further the relief items distribution programme organized to assist families who are at the temporary relief centres at the Nadun Rajamaha Viharaya, Kirialla on 3 June 2017. Ven. Rajakeeya Panditha Sasthrapathi Mailapitiya Samiddiwansa Thero was coordinated with troops and distributed dry rations and drinking water bottles among 100 of affected families at general areas Kirialla. Further more, during the another donation programme Ven Pibure Dammadewa Thero and Gemunu Watch troop donated a large stock of dry ration and drinking water bottles among 50 affected families at Epetawala Village on 9 and 10 June 2017. Meanwhile, with the direction and close supervision of Major General LM Mudalige RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding, 24 Division, Colonel WPADW Nanayakkara RSP USP, Commander, 241 Brigade coordinate with the group of old boys and students of St. Benedict’s College- Kotahena were brought down relief items from Ampara and Akkaraipaththu including School books, dry ration, clothes, essential items. Troops from 241 Brigade and beloved son of Commander 241 Brigade with the help of Gemunu troops relief items were donated among 35 affected school children and 250 affected people at Elukbulla village on 13 June 2017.
