he battalion was raised on 29th July 2009 at Kekirawa, ILUKEGAMA and Major N U Wedaarachchi became the first Commanding Officer of this battalion.

This battalion has contributed immensely in handling, rehabilitation and resettling of IDPs after the humanitarian operation.

On 30 April 2012 this battalion was dissolved on Army Head Quarters instructions and the officers and other ranks of this battalion were attached to 15 (V) GW and 21 (V) GW.
