SRI PADA SEASON STARTED; THE GEMUNU TROOPS PARTICIPATED FOR RELIGIOUS CEREMONY AND PERAHERA FROM PALABADDALA TO SRI PADA

The Sri Pada pilgrimage season, annually from December to May was started on “Uduwap Full Moon Poya Day” with a religious ceremony held at the summit at Sri Pada Maluwa admonition of Sri Pada Chief Incumbent, Most Ven. Bengamuwe Sri Dammadinna Thero.

The ceremonies began at the auspicious time after enshrining the relics casket with on the Pelmadulla Galpoththawala Sri Pada Viharaya and the Gemunu troops with the ceremonial dress were tookeover relics casket and the statue of God Saman continued the two long march from Palabaddala Purana Viharya to summit at Sri Pada Maluwa along the Raja Mawatha and via Erathna to Sri Pada Maluwa. The Senior Offrs, Offrs and 275 Other Ranks were participated for religious ceremony. The Gemunu Watch troops have been leading this religious ceremony annually.

A large number of devotees visited the Sri Pada Maluwa and more devotees were seen alongside the roads awaiting the opportunity to pay homage to the relics casket and the statue of God Saman.
