OFFICERS’ TRAINING DAY OF THE GEMUNU WATCH - STAGE II 2018

Officers Training Day of the Gemunu Watch is intended to improve the Officers’ knowledge on Military and Non Military subjects which presumed as inevitable to enhance the professionalism of the Officers. The second session of Training Day of the year 2018 was held on 10 August 2018 at the Regimental Centre with the participation of Senior and Middle Grade GW Officers.

The Centre Commandant welcomed all Officers on behalf of the Colonel of the Regiment and explained the importance and the value of the event as an important and special event in the Regimental event calendar.

The Officers’ Training Day programme was unfolded as per the following sequence.

  • Morning Physical Training

  • Drill (Capt & below)

  • Presentation on “Solid Waste Management in Sri Lanka” conducted by 4 GW

  • Lecture on “Physical Health for Smart Military Officer” conducted by Mr Sanjeeawa Rathnayake

  • Presentation on “China - The New Trend and the Way Forward” as Super Power conducted by 16 (V) GW

  • Non Traditional Security Threats in South Asian Region that impact Sri Lanka (Diners Club) conducted by Mrs Menik Wakkumbura

The guest lecturer, Mr. Sanjeewa Rathnayake conducted an invaluable presentation, on “Physical Health for Smart Military Officer”. He is a Certified Psychological Counselor, Body Building and Fitness Federation, Visiting Lecture at (LIFN and South Asian Academy of Sport Science). The lecture composited on history and transformation of Sri Lankan people, foods and beverages and bad food habits.

The 4 GW and 16 (V) GW conducted presentations, on “Solid Waste Management in Sri Lanka and “China - The New Trend and the Way Forward”. The event was arranged as per the intent of the Commander of the Army to groom Officers while sharing their knowledge and experience with their subordinates. Training has no end in military career; it is a continuous process throughout, Training as best welfare one can give and gain in military will mold Officer’s discipline, character and commitment, and pursuit excellence in their performance. It contributes to developed and groomed well- rounded group of Officers to take up the challenges of any nature in times to come.

During the Diners Club, Mrs. Menik Wakkumbura graced the event as guest speaker and conducted a presentation on” Non Traditional Security Threats in South Asian Region that impact Sri Lanka. She was welcomed by the Centre Commandant on behalf of the Col of the Regiment and all Officers. Ms. Menik Wakkumbura has graduated as M. Phil (Norway) and Lecturer - Dept of IR University of Colombo.

The Officers’ Training day was undoubtedly an important event to all Officers and it could able to get the peak of success due to the fervent guidance of Colonel of the Regiment Major General W B D P Fernando RWP RSP USP psc, as well as the General Officer Commanding 22 Infantry Division, Major General K P A Jayasekera WWV RSP USP psc, in order to groom GW Officers. After completion of the training day, the commandant thanked all participants and conveyed his kind regards to all.
