On February 24, 2024, the Gemunu Watch Regiment honoured the newly promoted Major General ULJS Perera RSP USP psc, Director General 2 in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, and Major General PKS Nandana RSP USP psc, Director General Training at the Regimental Centre The Gemunu Watch. The Colonel of the Regiment and General Officer Commanding - 51 Infantry Division, as well as other senior officers of the Gemunu Watch, attended the event. In addition, Brigadier Hiran Halangode (Rtd) RWP RSP USP USACGSC, an officer instructor at the General Sir John Kotelawale Academy and a veteran of the Gemunu Watch, was present the occasion as a special guest.
According to military protocol, the Centre Commandant of the Gemunu Watch, Brigadier Chaminda Galappathti RSP USP, greeted the newly promoted Major Generals and invited them to review the Guard Turnout at the main entrance. Ensuing the usual ritual, a floral tribute was presented at the War Heroes Monument to honour the brave officers and other ranks of the Gemunu Watch who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. Later, the 'Guard of Honour' honoured both Major Generals on the Parade Ground.
Later in the day, they gathered with all ranks for refreshments and shared their comments with the audience. The centerpiece of the day's activities was a lunch hosted by all Officers at the Officers' Mess in celebration of the newly promoted Major Generals. Major General SWB Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc, the Colonel of the Regiment of The Gemunu Watch and the General Officer Commanding - 51 Infantry Division, presented a special memento to Major General ULJS Perera RSP USP psc and Major General PKS Nandana RSP USP psc, respectively, at the end of the programme in honour of their well-deserved promotion to the prestigious rank of Major General.
