Thirteen newly commissioned officers who have posted to the Gemunu Watch after being graduated from Sri Lanka Military Academy in December 2020 underwent a Regimental Orientation Course. This was conducted under the directions and guidance of the Colonel of the Regiment Major General HPNK Jayapatirana RSP. Thirteen officers were provided a self-study period in the quarantine period at the Regimental Centre to revise their knowledge obtained during the basic training. Second phase was commenced at the 1st Battalion of Gemunu Watch in Diyatalawa on 27 January 2021with a brief opening ceremony attended by the Brigadier JMC Jayaweera RSP psc the Director Concept and Monitoring of Army Training Command who designed and coordinated the course.
The course was designed aiming to familiarize newly joined commission Officers on regimental duties and tasks before they posted to their respective battalions. Some of the objectives intended to achieve were; to educate on history and significant of the Gemunu Watch, to enhance the knowledge on unit level administrative systems and procedures, to develop personality, to educate on battalion institutions and their functions, to develop junior level leadership, to educate on Army and Regimental customs and traditions and to familiarize with the role and tasks of a junior leader. Course included visit to Combat Service Support units in Diyatalawa.
The course was terminated on 11 February 2021 with Major General SS Waduge RWP RSP USP ndu psc Commander Army Training Command and the Regimental Commander of Mechanized Infantry Regiment gracing the ceremony as the Chief Guest.
