Major General P.U.S Vithanage assumed duties as the new Commander, Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) after a brief religious ceremony of all denominations on Monday (8). The ceremony followed a Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour, presented by 7 Gemunu Watch troops serving the SFHQ-MLT soon after Major General Vithanage arrived at the premises. To signify the acceptance of the appointment, the new Mullaittivu Commander signed a formal document amidst chanting of Seth Pirith.
Major General Vithanage also planted a tree sapling in the premises as a token of remembrance before joining for an all rank tea soon after the brief ceremony. General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders and Unit Commanders under the SFHQ-MLT were also present during the ceremony. The appointment of Commander SFHQ-MLT fell vacant after the former Commander, Major General Jagath Dias recently took over duties as Chief of Staff of the Army. Major General Vithanage is the eighth Commander at the SFHQ-MLT
