The day’s programme was commenced in accordance with military traditions, Major General WGHAS Bandara RWP RSP ndu was welcomed by the Centre Commandant of The Gemunu Watch and received the traditional guard turnout at the main entrance. Subsequently, new colonel of the Regiment received the salute presented by The Gemunu Watch troops at the parade square. The charming but the proud, dignified military Guard of Honour was reviewed by the incoming Colonel of the Regiment, accompanied by the Parade Commander together with Centre Commandant in accordance with military traditions. This ceremony was consisted with ceremonial commemoration for fallen war heroes at the monument followed by group photograph.
Major General Senarath Bandara is a proud product of the Vidyartha College, Kandy. He joined the Sri Lanka Army on 17 January 1986 with Intake SSC 10 and was trained at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa and commissioned on 10 December 1986 and posted to the 4th Battalion the Gemunu Watch.
Major General Senarath Bandara has been awarded with 'Rana Wickrama Paddakkama' (RWP) thrice, ‘Rana Sura Paddakkama’ (RSP) twice and 'Desha Putra Sammanaya' three times in recognition of gallantry and bravery displayed during his dedicated services.
The Centre Commandant, Senior Officers, Staff Officers at the Regimental Centre and other ranks of the Gemunu Watch were participated in extending their well wishes to the new Colonel of the Regiment.
