NEW COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT ASSUMES DUTIES

The security force Commander (Central) Major General HPNK Jayapathirana RSP assumed duties as the 17th Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch on 14th December 2020 amidst religious observances at the office of the Regimental Centre the Gemunu Watch, Kuruwita.

The day’s programme was commenced in accordance with military traditions; Major General HPNK Jayapathirana RSP was welcomed by the Centre Commandant of The Gemunu Watch and received the traditional guard turn out at the main entrance. Subsequently received the salute presented by Gemunu Watch troops at the parade square. The charming but the proud, dignified military parade was reviewed by the incoming Colonel of the Regiment, accompanied by the Parade Commander together with Centre Commandant in accordance with military traditions.

Thereafter, the planting of sapling was held and then Major General HPNK Jayapathirana RSP placed his official signature and took over the responsibilities of the Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch followed by all ranks tea organized at the Swimming Pool premises. After the commemoration of war heroes at the monument, Major General HPNK Jayapathirana RSP addressed all ranks at the Highlanders Paradise hall.

Major General HPNK Jayapathirana RSP is a proud product of the Bandarawela Central College. He joined the Sri Lanka Army on 16 January 1986 with Intake SSC - 09 and was trained at Kotelawala Defence Academy and Sri Lanka Military Academy- Diyatalawa. He was commissioned on 20 September 1986 and posted to 1st Battalion of the Gemunu Watch.
