NEW COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT ASSUMES DUTIES

The Director General Trg and Comd ARTRAC Maj Gen T S Bangsajayah RWP RSP VSV USP ndu assumed duties as the 15th Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch on 26th October 2019 amidst religious observances at the office of the Regimental Centre the Gemunu Watch Kuruwita.

The day’s programme was commenced in accordance with military traditions, Maj Gen T S Bangsajayah RWP RSP VSV USP ndu was welcomed by the Centre Comdt of The Gemunu Watch and received the traditional guard turn out at the main entrance. Subsequently received the salute presented by Gemunu Watch troops at the parade square. The charming but the proud of dignified military parade was reviewed by the incoming Colonel of the Regiment, accompanied by the Parade Commander together with Centre Commandant in accordance with military traditions.

Thereafter, the planting of sapling was held in front of Regtl Office. Then Maj Gen T S Bangsajayah RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, placed his official signature and took over the responsibilities of the Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch followed by the all ranks tea organized at the Swimming Pool premises. After the commemoration of war heroes at the monument, Maj Gen T S Bangsajayah RWP RSP VSV USP ndu addressed all ranks at the Paradise Hall.

Maj Maj Gen T S Bangsajayah RWP RSP VSV USP ndu is a proud product of the St Benedict College Kotahena. He joined the Sri Lanka Army on 01 October 1985 with Intake SSC 7 and was trained at Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa and commissioned on 31 May 1986 and posted to 1st Battalion the Gemunu Watch.

He has held many comd appointments varying from Platoon Commander, Company Commander and Second in Command of 12th Battalion the Gemunu Watch and Commanded the of 9th and 1st Bns the Gemunu Watch.

He has held many Comd, Staff and Instr appointments in various formations and Army headquarters. Some of the key appointments are; GSO 3 - Dte of Trg, Squadron Comd - KDA, GSO 1 - OCC, SO 1 (A) - RHQ GW, CO - ATS, Comdt - CTS (AMP), Instr - IPSOTSL, Comdt - ATS (M-Oya), Comdt - NCO Trg Sch, Comd - 211 Bde, Comd - 583 Bde, Dy GOC - 58 Div, Director - Dte of Rec, GOC - 57 Div, Comdt – ITC and DG Trg AHQ.

Further, Maj Gen T S Bangsajayah RWP RSP VSV USP ndu has followed many training courses both local and abroad in his military career. He is a graduate from National Defence University, China.

Maj Gen T S Bangsajayah RWP RSP VSV USP ndu was decorated with Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) for his exceptional unique performances, velour and bravery that he displayed in the face of enemy during operations and also a recipient of Vishista Sewa Vibhushanaya (VSV) and Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP) for his unblemished military career in the Army.

The Colonel of the Regiment’s beloved wife Mrs. Hashamareer Bangsajayah, the President of the Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Branch, family members, Senior Officers, Staff Officers at the Regimental Centre and other ranks of the Gemunu Watch were participated in extending their well wishes to the new Colonel of the Regiment.
