A MEDICAL CLINIC BY THE REGIMENTAL CENTRE THE GEMUNU WATCH

When a military is not fighting a war but rather maintaining peace, healthy personnel among the troops are critical. In light of this, Brigadier Chaminda Galappathti RSP USP organized a Health Clinic for Officers and Other Ranks, which was directed by the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Wajira Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc, on February 22, 2024, at the Regimental Headquarters. Dr. Vipula Indralal, Medical Officer (Info) - Provincial Directorate Office of Health led the programme with the assistance of Dr. Ajith, Medical Officer (Planning) - Provincial Directorate Office of Health and Health Service Officials from Sabaragamuwa Province. Also the clinic has been conduct under the supervision from Dr. Kapila Bimal Kannangara, Director of Sabaragamuwa Provincial Health Services Department.

The patients underwent eye tests, BMI measures, blood glucose tests, dentist appointments, and liver function tests. At the facility, 120 Army servicemen and their families received medical consultations. The Senior Consultant Psychiatrist - Teaching Hospital Ratnapura, Dr. Susil Kulathilake, MBBS, MD (Psych), and Medical Officer - MOH Rathnapura, Dr. W A C Premathilake, respectively, performed the health awareness programmes on Mental Health and Sexually Transmitted Diseases. Meanwhile, medical consultations provided by Dr. Suranjana Hettiarachchi, Medical Officer (Eye Screening Unit), Provincial Health - Sabaragamuwa, Dr. Francis, Senior Medical Officer - Gynecologist, and Dr. Ganganath, DMO - Theppanawa District Hospital, till the programme ends.
