MAJOR HIA DE ALWIS RSP ASSUMED DUTIES AS THE 12TH COMMANDING OFFICER OF REGIMENTAL HEADQUARTER BATTALION THE GEMUNU WATCH

Major HIA De Alwis RSP assumed duties as the 12th Commanding Officer of Regimental Headquarter Battalion the Gemunu Watch on 18th January 2024. A brief ceremony was held which included Guard Turnout, religious observances and troops address.

Major HIA De Alwis RSP was enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet of Sri Lanka Military Academy with Intake 52 on 28th June 2000. After completion of successful military training, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 22nd June 2002 and he was posted to 8thBattalion the Gemunu Watch.

During his 23 years of military career he has held many Command and Staff appointments such as Platoon Commander and Officer Commanding of 8 GW, Overlooking 2 IC 25-GW,OTO 6 GW, Further, he has held the appointments of GSO 3 (Ops) - RHQ GW Kuruwita, SO 3(Admin) Mil Hosp (PLY)Jaffna), GSO 2 (Trg) - 58 Div (Boossa), Adjt (O/L) RHQGW Kuruwita, SO2 (LOG) RHQGW Kuruwita, Att BCGR , 2IC RHQ BN Kuruwita.

Moreover, for his bravery action in the battle field he was awarded with “Rana Sura Padakkama” and for his Wounded in action in the face of the enemy he was awarded with “Desha Putra Padakkama”. In addition he has been awarded with “East Humanitarian Operation Medal, “North Humanitarian Operation Medal”, “North and East Operation Medal, Long Service Medal”, “75th Independence Anniversary Commemoration Medal”, “Seva Abhimani Medal and service Medal”.
