Major General Senarath Bandara assumed duties as the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna on 09 August 2020 at the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) premises, amid religious observances and military honours, presented by troops of the 12th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch.
After the formal Guard Turnout at the entrance and the Guard of Honour, the incoming new Commander Security Forces Jaffna while chanting of 'Seth Pirith' by members of the Maha Sangha was on, placed his signature for an official document to signify the acceptance of the new appointment. General Officers Commanding in 51, 52 and 55 Divisions, All Brigade Commanders and Senior Staff Officers of the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna were there to greet the new Commander Security Forces Jaffna.
He planted a Mango sapling in the SFHQ-J compound and left memories before he joined an All Rank tea. Afterwards, he addressed the troops and spelt out his future plans for the Headquarters and sought everyone's cooperation to carry out his duties in the peninsula. Counting over 34 years of service in the Sri Lanka Army, Major General Senarath Bandara has been awarded 'Rana Wickrama Paddakkama' (RWP) three times, ‘Rana Sura Paddakkama’ (RSP) two times and 'Desha Putra Sammanaya' three times in recognition of gallantry and his dedicated services.
He has served many command and staff appointments, including Commanding Officer 5th battalion the Gemunu Watch, Commanding Officer Infantry Training Centre, Colonel General Staff 57 Division, Commander 572 Brigade during the peak of Humanitarian Operations, Commander 111 Brigade, Director Independent Directorate at Army Headquarters, General Officer Commanding 61 Division and 54 Division. Before being appointed to his present appointment, he was serving as the Commander Security Forces - East.
