Major General BVDP Abeynayake USP ndu assumed duties as the 8th Commander of the Security Forces - West on 03 September 2020, amid religious blessings and military ceremonials at the Headquarters in Panagoda.
The newly-appointed Commander of the Security Forces-West was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers and honoured in a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented by the troops of the Gemunu Watch. Afterwards, he was invited to plant a sapling as a gesture of memory. Later on, Major General Chula Abenayake placed his signature in an official document to signify acceptance of duties, amidst chanting of 'Seth Pirith'. A few Senior Officers were also present at the venue.
An All Rank tea and a formal address to the Officers culminated the day's proceedings. Commander, 14 Division, Directors and Center Commandants under command to the SFHQ-West, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Rankers were present during the occasion.
