Before relinquishing his esteemed duties as the Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch, Major General W.B.J.K. Wimalaratne RWP RSP undertook his final series of official visits to the battalions under command, marking a significant and memorable occasion in the Regiment’s proud history.
Upon arrival at each battalion, Major General Wimalaratne was accorded a ceremonial guard turnout and a drive-pass at the camp entrance, in keeping with military traditions that reflect the profound respect and admiration held for his exemplary leadership. He was warmly welcomed by the respective Commanding Officers, who extended their courtesies in accordance with established military customs and protocol.
During the visit, the Colonel of the Regiment conducted a comprehensive inspection of the infrastructure and facilities within the battalions. He reviewed the progress of tasks assigned to the Battalion Commanders during his maiden visit and commended the initiatives taken to improve the living and working standards of both officers and other ranks. His keen attention to welfare and operational readiness once again underscored his commitment to the holistic development of the Regiment.
In his address to the troops, Major General Wimalaratne highlighted the paramount importance of discipline, professionalism, and moral integrity in military service. He reminded all personnel to remain vigilant against any form of misconduct and to continue upholding the proud traditions of the Gemunu Watch with unwavering dedication and honor.
The visit also included an interactive session with the Centre Commandant, Deputy Centre Commandant, senior officers, and Non-Commissioned Officers, during which they engaged in productive discussions centered on enhancing regimental standards, unity, and esprit de corps.
