HIGHLANDERS HONOR RETIRING MAJOR GENERAL CA RAJAPAKSE RSP IN FAREWELL CEREMONY

Highlanders witnessed a poignant farewell ceremony for Major General CA Rajapakse RSP on 26 September 2024, who is retiring after an illustrious career spanning over 33 years in the Sri Lanka Army. The event held at the regimental centre, celebrated his exceptional service and contributions to the nation.

Major General Rajapakse began his military journey as an officer cadet of Intake PMA 2, joining the Sri Lanka Army on 15 October 1990. He was commissioned on March 13, 1991, and subsequently took on his first posting with the 1st Battalion of the Gemunu Watch. Throughout his distinguished career, Major General Rajapakse held numerous command and staff positions across various capacities, demonstrating unwavering dedication and exemplary leadership.

The farewell ceremony commenced with the Centre Commandant, Brigadier HCL Galappathti RSP USP, extending a warm welcome to the Chief Guest. He led the Chief Guest in a review of the Guard turnout at the main entrance, followed by a formal salute from the impressive guard of honor at the parade square. The ceremony also included a ceremonial commemoration at the monument dedicated to fallen war heroes, culminating in a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.

Moreover, Major General Rajapakse was invited and warmly welcomed to the Dinner night, which the Regimental Center hosted to honour him by Colonel of the Regiment, Major General SWB Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc. Furthermore during this gathering, Colonel of the Regiment delivered a heartfelt farewell speech on behalf of the officers of the Gemunu Watch. He reflected on Major General Rajapakse's significant achievements and milestones, sharing fond memories and acknowledging the invaluable support of his family, particularly his spouse, who made significant contributions to the Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Branch.

As a fitting tribute to Major General Rajapakse's dedication and service to the Gemunu Watch, a special retirement gift was presented by the Colonel of the Regiment. This gesture underscored the deep appreciation felt by all ranks of the regiment.

The event concluded with all officers and other ranks at the Regimental Centre extending their heartfelt gratitude to the retiring Highlander, wishing him a healthy, prosperous, and fulfilling future. Major General CA Rajapakse's legacy will continue to inspire current and future generations of the Sri Lanka Army.
