HIGHLANDERS BID FAREWELL TO RETIRING MAJOR GENERAL PCL GUNAWARDANA RWP RSP psc

The farewell ceremony of Major General PCL Gunawardana RWP RSP psc was held at the Regimental Centre on 19 July 2024 at the occasion of his retirement after completing over 33 years of exceptional service in the Sri Lanka Army.

Major General PCL Gunawardana RWP RSP psc joined the Sri Lanka Army on 02 January 1991 and after commissioned on 29 August 1992 he was posted to the 6th Battalion the Gemunu Watch. During his illustrious military career, he has held many command, staff and instructor appointments in different capacities.

The Centre Commandant, Brigadier HCL Galappathti RSP USP welcomed the Chief Guest and accompanied him to review the Guard turnout at the main entrance. Subsequently, He was accompanied to the salute of the proud and dignified guard of honour at the parade square of the regiment. Soon after that the ceremonial commemoration of fallen war heroes at the monument took place followed by the group photo to mark the event.

In the Evening hours The Regimental Centre hosted a Dinner Night for retiring noble Highlander, Major General PCL Gunawardana RWP RSP psc. Colonel of the Regiment the Gemunu Watch Major General SWB Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc, delivered the customary farewell speech on behalf of all Officers of the Gemunu Watch to extend the deep sense of gratitude and appreciation of the service of senior officer.

During the farewell speech, Colonel of the Regiment highlighted some of the salient achievements and milestones of Major General PCL Gunawardana RWP RSP psc and recollected some memories as well. Moreover he highly esteemed the invaluable service of the spouse which contributed to the Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Branch.

At the climax of the event a special retirement gift was presented to Major General PCL Gunawardana RWP RSP psc by Colonel of the Regiment in appreciation of his dedicated service rendered to the Gemunu Watch.

All Officers and Other Ranks of the Regimental Centre extended their heartfelt gratitude to the retiring Highlander and wished him a healthy, wealthy, peaceful, and prosperous life.
