A special visit was paid to a family that has made the ultimate sacrifice for the motherland, giving both their beloved sons in service to the Sri Lankan Army. The two brave sons of this family served with pride and honor in the 5th Battalion and 12th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch, and today their resting places remain well-preserved as a mark of gratitude for their supreme sacrifice.
The Director General Infantry and The Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch, Major General W.B.J.K. Wimalarathne RWP RSP, together with The President of the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Gemunu Watch Dr. (Mrs) Dilrukshi Wimalarathne, Colonel Dharshana Abeykoon RWP RSP USP psc, and the Commanding Officers of the 1st, 5th, and 18th Battalions of the Gemunu Watch, joined in this visit to pay tribute to the fallen heroes and to extend their heartfelt support to the family on 02 October 2025.
During the visit, The president of the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Gemunu Watch Dr. (Mrs) Dilrukshi Wimalaratne inquired into the grievances and challenges currently faced by the family and offered valuable guidance to the children regarding their education and future aspirations. The Colonel of the Regiment, recalling his past service alongside one of the fallen heroes at the Forward Defence Line in Kilali in 2006, shared cherished memories with the family and presented them with dry rations as a gesture of care and solidarity.
The event concluded with floral tributes laid at the graves of the two heroic sons, followed by a group photograph with the family members. It was an emotional occasion that reflected the unwavering respect and gratitude of the Gemunu Watch towards the families of its fallen heroes.
