THE GEMUNU WATCH COLOURS NIGHT 2018

The Gemunu Watch ‘Colours Night - 2018’ was held for the first time in the Regiment history at Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre in Colombo on Wednesday evening, 12 September 2018.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake grace the occasion and as the Chief Guest accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment GW, Major General Dampath Fernando replete with military traditions and entertainment.

The day’s event commenced by lighting the traditional oil lamp by the Chief Guest, a few other Senior Officers and few colours recipients. The two-minute silence, as is the practice in all military ceremonies, was observed for fallen War Heroes. Paying due respect to the Army and Regiment, the Army and regimental songs reverberated leaving the floor. Then, Colonel of the Regiment delivered his welcome speech.

Several scintillating and eye-catching spectacles of cultural, musical and historic themes by famed artists held the audiences spellbound as the day’s agenda unfolded one by one while awarding 102 Regimental Clours to both the serving and retired Officers and Other Ranks who have excelled in various sports at Army, Defence Services, National and International levels.

Major General WA Wanniarachchi WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc Director General Training , Directorate of Training, Major General KPA Jayasekera WWV RSP USP ndc psc, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division, Major General WBDP Fernando RWP RSP USP VSV psc, Chief of Staff and Colonel of the Regiment and Major General WR Wijerathna (Rtd) USP were respectively invited to the stage for presentation of Colours to the recipients who excelled at Army, Defence Services and national levels.

The grand presentation of Colours reached its peak as the Chief Guest stepped on to the stage after he was invited to make the final presentation of Colours to ten outstanding sportsmen who have excelled exceptionally well. Paying the respect and the warm appreciation to Deshabandu Lt Col w Wimaladasa (Rtd) USP, Cheerful audience stood up from their seats and offered round of applause when he received Coloues from the Chief Gust, Commander of the Army. Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake congratulated all 102 Colours recipients in his brief speech.

Major General Dampath Fernando, Colonel of the Regiment showing gratitude to the Commander of the Army presented a memento to him as the day’s landmark event was drawing to a close.

Adding more significance to the event, the Commander of the Army was invited to pose for a group photo with the ‘Colour’ recipients.
