FELICITATION CEREMONY FOR MAJOR GENERAL W H M MANATUNGA

A felicitation ceremony for Major General W H M Manatunga was held at the Regiment Centre on the occasion of his promotion to the rank of Major General. The traditional event unfolded on 12 October 2018 at Regimental Centre, Kuruwita with the participation of a large number of Senior Officers, Officers and Other ranks.

The day’s programme was unfolded in accordance with military traditions, Major General Mnjula Manatunge received the Guard Turnout at the entrance of the Regimental Centre and he was welcomed by the Centre Commandant the Gemunu Watch. Thereafter the Ceremonial Parade, presented by Gemunu Watch troops was taken place and reviewed by the Major General Manjula Manatunge at the parade square. He was accompanied by the Parade Commander together with Centre Commandant as per the military traditions.

Then, the Chief Guest was accompanied to the traditional custom of floral tribute for fallen war heroes at the monument with the participation of all Senior Officers of the Gemunu Watch followed by an All Ranks Tea organized at the poolside of the Regimental Centre.

Major General Manjula Manatunge was born on 20 April 1965 and hailed from a great province WAYABA and completed his education from Maliyadewa College Kurunegala. He was enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 01 October 1985 and after successful completion of cadet training he was commissioned as a 2 Lt and posted to the prestigious 4th Battalion the Gemunu Watch on 31 May 1986. Due to his dedication commitment and display of outstanding performances, he was highly recognized by his seniors, peers and subordinates. However Major General Manjula Manathunga was critically inquired on 16 May 1993 while he was actively engage in operation MUHUDU SULAN in the Rank of Capt. Though this was badly affected to his carrier he was managed to overcome all the challengers. In his military career he has held Platoon Commander- 4 GW, Platoon Commander – Recruit Training School – M’Oya, Instructor - Counter Insurgency Jungle Warfare Wing - M’Oya, Intelligence officer in Military Intelligent Corp, Intelligence officer - 12 Brigade, 1 Military Intelligent Corp, 22 Brigade, 11 Brigade, 33 Brigade, 3 Division, Staff Officer 2 (Admin) - 33 Brigade, Staff Officer 2 - Directorate of Information Technology and Commanding Officer – RHQ Bn.

Further, Major General Manjula Manatunge had immensely contributed to the Army with his proficiency in both Command and Staff aspects. He had proved himself as an icon of excellence by holding some of the key Command and Staff appointments in his military career as mentioned below.

  • SO 1 (Log) - 23 Div

  • SO 1 (Admin) - 11 Div

  • SO 1 (Admin) - Directorate of Army Medical Services

  • SO 1 - Directorate of Army Dental Services

  • Dy comdt - Ranaviru Resource Center

Major General Manjula Manatunge presently holds the appointment of Commandant - Ranaviru Resource Center Minneriya.

During his tour of duty, he achieved qualifications from both local and overseas few of the foreign courses and are as mentioned bellowed:

  • Intelligence Course - India

  • Young Officers Course - India

  • Junior Comd Course - India

  • Dissaster Management Course – Sri Lanka

  • Grading and Designing Course – Sri Lanka .

Then the Chief Gust was accompanied to the lunch arranged at the Officers’ Mess. A special memento was presented to Major General Manjula Manatunge by Colonel of the Regiment, Major General K P A Jayasekara WWV RSP USP ndc psc in appreciation of his dedicated and committed service rendered to the Regiment.

Major General Manjula Mantunge’s beloved Mother Mrs Adlin Manathunga, wife Mrs. Nimali Manathunga, loving daughter Miss Shehani Manathunga and sons Nimendra Manathunga, Nilesh Manathunga, family members, the Council Members and Senior Officers, Staff Officers at the Regimental Centre and Other Ranks of the Gemunu Watch were participated in extending their well wishes to the newly promoted Major General Manjula Manatunge.
