FELICITATION CEREMONY FOR MAJ GEN PML CHANDRASIRI WWV RWP RSP ndu, MAJ GEN AADNSP DUNUWILA RWP RSP USP, MAJ GEN MWAA WIJESURIYA RWP RSP USP AND MAJ GEN AC LAMAHEWA WWV RWP RSP

Maj Gen Lal Chandrasiri is a proud product of Thurstan College-Colombo. After the successful completion of primary and secondary education, he joined the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force in 1987 and underwent training with the Intake 28 at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa.

After the successful completion of the basic military training, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and was posted to the 4th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch as a Platoon Commander. He also served as the Company Commander of amalgamated 4/12 GW and 5/7 GW.

He commanded the 9th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch at the peak of the Humanitarian Operation and displayed his great leadership which immensely contributed to eradicate the ruthless terrorism from the motherland. Also he rendered his service as the 2 IC of Haiti mission in the year 2010.

Presently he is serving as the Overall Sy- Coord of the AHQ. In his long tour of duty, he has followed a number of courses both local and abroad, few of those are mentioned bellow:

  •  Young Officer Course - India

  •  Junior Command Course - India

  •  Senior Command Course - India

  •  United Nation Logistic Officer Course - India

  •  National Security and War Course - Pakistan

Maj Gen Lal Chandrasiri participated to the first IPSC rifle world Championship in Russia in the year 2017 and was awarded with National Colours for firing. Maj Gen Lal Chandrasiri holds a Master of Science degree in National Security and War Studies awarded by the Pakistan Army.

In appreciation of his bravery and dedicated service in the battle field he was awarded with Weera Wickrama Vibushan medal, Rana Wickrama Padakkama twice and Rana Sura Padakkama twice.

Maj Gen Nandana Dunuwila is a proud product of Prince of Wales' College- Moratuwa. After his successful completion of primary and secondary education, he joined the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force in 1987 and underwent the basic training with Intake 28 at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa.

Having successfully completed his basic military training, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and was posted to the 5th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch. He also held the appointments as Adjutant and Company Commander.

Maj Gen Nandana Dunuwila commanded the 12th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch at the peak of Humanitarian Operation and displayed his great leadership which immensely contributed to eradicate the separatist terrorism from the motherland.

In year 2018, he was appointed as the Centre Commandant of the RHQ GW and rendered a great service for the betterment of the Gemunu Watch with many innovative concepts. As well as his commitments was immensely beneficial for the success of the Mithrashakthi Exercise.

Presently he is serving as the GOC of the 56 Inf Div. In his long tour of duty, he has followed number of courses both local and abroad, few of those are mentioned bellow:

  •  Young officer course- Pakistan

  •  Junior Command and Staff Course - Bangaladesh

  •  Army Bn Comd Course - China

  •  South Asian Seminar on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operation -Nepal

  •  Training programme on transnational Justice and reconciliation - Switzerland

In appreciation of his bravery and dedicated service he was awarded with Rana Wickrama Padakkama and Rana Sura Padakkama twice and also Uttama Sewa Padakkama for his unblemished service to the Sri Lanka Army.

Maj Gen Ajantha Wijesuriya is a proud product of Nalanda Central College - Minuwangoda. After his successful completion of primary and secondary education, he joined the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force in 1986 with intake NAR 4.

Having successfully completed his basic military training, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and was posted to the 4th Battalion the Gemunu Watch as a Platoon Commander and then he performed duties as the Company Commander.

He commanded the 1st Battalion of the Gemunu Watch at the peak of Humanitarian Operation and displayed his great leadership which immensely contributed to eradicate the separatist terrorism from the motherland.

Presently he serves as the Brig (Log) of the HQ Log Comd. In his long tour of duty, he has followed a number of courses both local and overseas, few of those are mentioned bellow:

  •  Young Officer Course - Pakistan

  •  Junior Command Course - India

  •  Senior Command Course - India

  •  United Nation Peace Support Operation Instructor Course - Malaysia

  •  Multinational Cooperation Programme in the Asia Pacific 2015- Japan

  •  Training Programme of Transitional Justice and Reconciliation for Offrs Defence Sectors – Malaysia

  •  Training of trainers programme on transnational justice and reconciliation in Switzerland

In appreciation of his bravery and dedicated service in the battle field he was awarded with Rana Wickrama Padakkama and Rana Sura Padakkama twice and Uttama Sewa Padakkama for his unblemished service to the Sri Lanka Army.

Maj Gen Chaminda Lamahewa joined the Sri Lanka Army in 1986 after completing his primary and secondary education from St. Thomas' College -Gurutalawa.

After his successful completion of the basic military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and was posted to the 5th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch as a Platoon Commander. He held the appointments of the adjutant and Company Commander.

Maj Gen Chaminda Lamahewa commanded the 7th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch during the peak of the Humanitarian Operation. The great leadership that he displayed was an immense contribution to eradicate the separatist terrorism from our motherland.

At present he is serving as GOC 24 Infantry Division. In his long tour of duty, he has followed a number of courses both local and overseas, few of those are mentioned bellow:

  •  Young officer course - India

  •  Junior Command Course - India

  •  Senior Command Course - India

  •  Command and Staff Operations Low Course - Australia

In appreciation of his bravery and selfless dedication in the battle field he was awarded with Weere Wickrama Vibushan medal, Rana Wickrama Padakkama and Rana Sura Padakkama four times.

The Centre Commandant, Brigadier JMRNK Jayamanna RWP welcomed all senior officers and invited to review the Guard Turnout at the main entrance. Thereafter, he accompanied them to receive the salute of the Gemunu Watch’s Guard of Honour.

Next, the ceremonial commemoration of the fallen war heroes at the monument was held according to the customs and traditions of the Gemunu Watch. Subsequently, a group photograph was taken including all the officers of the Gemunu Watch while making the event more traditional.

All officers and other ranks of the Regimental Centre extended their heartfelt gratitude to the distinguished senior officers for their commitment and dedication towards the Gemunu Watch and wished for a healthy, wealthy, peaceful and a prosperous life.

Then the Senior Officers were accompanied to the lunch arranged at the Officers’ Mess. Thereafter special mementos were presented to Maj Gen PML Chandrasiri WWV RWP RSP ndu, Maj Gen AADNSP Dunuwila RWP RSP USP, Maj Gen MWAA Wijesuriya RWP RSP USP and Maj Gen AC Lamahewa WWV RWP RSP by the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General HPNK Jayapathirane RSP – Commander of the Security Forces (Central) in appreciation of their dedicated and committed service rendered to the Regiment.
